The Ljubljana-based cleantech company earns EU Innovation Radar recognition for its chemical-free nanobubble systems with smart monitoring, serving agriculture, industries and municipalities facing water shortages and seeking energy savings.

LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA / July 7, 2026 / Waboost, a manufacturer of nanobubble water treatment systems, has been named a Key European Innovator by the EU Innovation Radar, for its work in ultrafine bubble technology and IoT-enabled Smart Water quality systems.

The recognition arrives at a moment when water has been confirmed as one of the world’s most visible environmental and economic challenges. Around the world, communities and industries are facing a combined crisis of scarcity and contamination: droughts and falling water reservoir levels for irrigation, nutrient pollution that triggers harmful algal blooms in lakes, ponds, marinas and reservoirs, and untreated wastewater and industrial discharge. Additional pressures include biofilm in pipes, pathogens in animal and aquaculture systems, and growing pressure to reuse water safely rather than discharge it once.

Waboost’s answer is not another chemical additive. The company’s systems generate stable oxygen and ozone nanobubbles directly inside the water stream, creating ultrafine bubbles that can remain suspended long enough to transfer gases efficiently (up to 6 times better than traditional) and interact with contaminants, biofilm and low-oxygen environments. By improving gas transfer and water quality without chlorine, peroxide or constant chemical dosing, the technology is designed to help customers achieve cleaner water with lower operational complexity and reduced chemical residue.

“Water treatment is entering a new phase,” said Boštjan Veronik, Founder of Waboost. “The challenge is no longer only to make water cleaner. The challenge is to make water cleaner with less energy, fewer chemicals and more reuse. Recognition by the European Commission confirms that nanobubble technology can move from a specialist solution to a practical platform for agriculture, aquaculture, wastewater, lakes and food systems.”

How It Works

Waboost systems produce nanobubbles smaller than 200 nanometers in diameter that remain suspended in water for extended periods, enabling precision delivery of oxygen and other gases directly to water and users as plant roots, aquatic environments, and processing water. Unlike conventional aeration or chemical treatment, the bubbles are stable, self-pressurized, and require no additives.

Waboost pairs its generators with sensors and a Smart Water cloud platform so operators can monitor parameters such as dissolved oxygen, oxidation-reduction potential, pH, conductivity, temperature and ozone, and can automate operation around target water-quality ranges. This combination of hardware, sensor data and remote control is designed to make advanced water treatment easier to deploy in farms, food production facilities, municipal sites, aquaculture systems, lakes, ponds, marinas and sports facilities. All this leads to water savings and energy savings.

Clients across multiple sectors have reported measurable outcomes from Waboost deployments with results up to:

  • 15-30% higher yield in crop, 7-15% higher yield in livestock
  • 15% reduction in fertilizer use at agriculture facilities
  • 100% biofilm and microbial control in food and beverage production, without chemicals
  • 99% reduction of pathogenic microorganisms at sports and recreational water management sites
  • 30% savings in electricity
  • 100% savings in chemicals
  • 10-20% savings in water usage

This model has been applied across multiple water-intensive sectors:

  • Wastewater and industrial water: improving oxygen transfer, supporting biological treatment, reducing chemical dependence and making treated water more suitable for reuse.
  • Lakes, ponds, canals, marinas and decorative or reflecting water bodies: raising dissolved oxygen, reducing odor and helping manage algae, organic load and stagnation.
  • Agriculture and irrigation: enriching irrigation water with oxygen, supporting healthier roots, improving nutrient uptake and reducing pressure from fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Aquaculture and livestock: improving dissolved oxygen and water hygiene, helping control pathogens and biofilm in high-density production environments.
  • Food and beverage processing: supporting chemical-free water sanitation, biofilm control and cleaner process water.
